This Privacy Policy explains what information Pythous collects when you use pythous.com and its subdomains (health.pythous.com, tools.pythous.com and time.pythous.com), how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, email us at [email protected].
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. When you create an account we collect your username, email address and password (stored hashed, never in plain text). If you sign in with Google instead, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us.
- Profile and comments. Anything you add to your public profile (name, bio, photo) and any comments you post are shown publicly on the site.
- Messages. When you use our contact form we receive your name, email address, subject and message.
Information collected automatically
- Log data. Like most websites, our servers record your IP address, browser type, device information, the pages you visit, the referring page and the date and time of each request.
- Cookies and similar technologies. We and our partners use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, measure traffic and serve ads. See sections 3 and 4.
- Notifications. If you choose to receive new-article notifications, we store a push-notification token for your device. You can turn notifications off at any time in your browser or device settings.
Our free tools
Most tools on tools.pythous.com and time.pythous.com run entirely in your browser: the text, numbers and files you enter are processed on your device and are not sent to our servers. The IP lookup tool sends the IP address being looked up to ipapi.co, and the currency converter fetches exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com. Those services' own privacy policies apply to those requests.
2. How we use information
- To run the site, including accounts, comments and notifications.
- To reply to messages and correction requests.
- To understand which articles and tools people use, so we can improve them.
- To show advertising that helps keep Pythous free (see section 3).
- To protect the site against spam, abuse and security threats, and to meet legal obligations.
3. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use Google AdSense to show ads on Pythous.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info (US) or www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also use cookies to serve ads on our site.
Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before cookies are used for personalised advertising, and you can change your choice at any time. If you do not consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for purposes such as frequency capping, aggregated ad reporting and fraud prevention.
4. Analytics
We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are read and how people arrive at them). Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your IP address, device and browsing activity on our site. You can prevent Google Analytics from using your data by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
5. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers that help us operate the site, such as our hosting, storage and email providers, and only as needed to provide their services to us.
- With Google, as described in sections 3 and 4.
- When required by law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Pythous, our readers or others.
6. Cookies and your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block cookies some features may not work, for example staying signed in. You can also use the advertising and analytics opt-outs listed in sections 3 and 4.
7. Data retention
We keep account information for as long as your account exists, and messages for as long as needed to respond to them. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email [email protected]. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
9. Children
Pythous is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Links to other websites
Our articles may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please review their policies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version here and update the effective date above.
